The genesis of The Drives derives from two best friends – Andrew Levin (guitar/vocals) and Casey Chen (guitar/keyboard). The two grew up in Orange County, California and actually played in separate rival bands at one point in high school. The pair began collaborating at the age of 16. In 2010, Levin began attending NYU in New York and Chen moved to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music. The pair decided to return to Los Angeles after graduation.
Geo Botelho (bass) and Diego Diaz (drums) completed the band as they quickly began playing shows around southern California. The band blends elements of indie rock, garage rock, and indie electro-pop.
